🟨 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝, 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

One of the most respected TV personalities, Martin Lewis, said he was shocked when his Taxi driver refused to take the fare. 

Apparently on the journey, the driver had asked the ‘Money Saving Expert’ a financial question and Martin said he was only too pleased to be able to advise the driver. 

This is the Tweet that Martin Lewis put out on Twitter:

“Was running late home just now, so jumped in a black cab.

The driver wanted to ask me a financial question, which I answered. 

Then at the end he refused to take my payment saying he wanted to say thanks. 

So I said I'd give that amount to charity. Good karma all round.  Feels good”. 

Well done Martin and well done to the driver. 

Of course this happens frequently but it’s something that hardly ever gets a mention in the media.

Over my 50 years in the trade, I’ve lost count of all the free rides I’ve given. But then one such incident has always stuck in my mind from the early seventies. 

 I remember seeing Telly Savalas on a TV chat show, he said he was totally amazed that the Taxi driver taking him to the studio, refused the fare!

The host replied, that’s the sign that you’ve really made it as a super star…when London Cabbies won’t charge you!
