A trial scheme by Wandsworth council in London to enforce 20mph speed limits has been blocked by the Department for Transport (DfT), which has described the way the authority was using its powers as ‘unlawful’. See article below.
𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬:
* We need to know if all these 20mph schemes are illegal, or is it just the way Wandsworth have implemented the scheme ?
* Will this decision by the DfT affect schemes in other central London boroughs?
* If these schemes are illegal, will drivers be reimburse for any fines they’ve paid?
We’ve been informed that no points can be, or have been issued by local councils.
This matter needs to be investigated by our representative bodies legal teams and a statement made as soon as possible.
