So, the representative Org that is “Run for Cab Drivers”, is not accepting new member applications for drivers with more than 8 points on their DVLA icence.

Recent applicants are now receiving this letter below

Thank you for your application to join the LTDA.

Unfortunately, we are currently not accepting new member applications for drivers with more than 8 points on their DVLA icence.

This is as a result of the massive increase in members requiring legal assistance for motoring offences and the subsequent revocation of taxi licences by TFL under the '6 points and you are out' policy.

A typical case involving a member who 'tots up' to 12 points, involves hours of work and court appearances in an effort to retain the members DVLA licence.

This is then followed by appeals to TFL, and often a magistrates court, to retain the members taxi licence, and the whole process can typically cost £10,000 plus.

You are welcome to reapply for membership once your points have reduced to below 8 points.
Yours sincerely
LTDA Executive

So, another poor driver won’t be getting his orange diary to place in his windscreen.

But this is not an isolated issue. Recently Taxi Leaks posted the story of a driver who had his cab licence revoked by TfL after totting up penalty points, and was expelled from his representative Org because in their words he was “no longer a Taxi driver and only Taxi drivers could be a member their Org”.

Isn’t it about time drivers started to think about what they are actually getting for their subscriptions ?
