Just when you thought TfLTPH couldn’t get any more incompetent as a Taxi trade regulator

This tweet appeared on Tweeter:

How petty can you get . Cab failed inspection yesterday because of incorrect font on Insurance certificate.

Tbh I couldn’t believe it . What really pissed me off was the examiner smiled when he gave me the fail and said sorry mate just doing my job.

Personally, I would have locked the Taxi and refused to move the cab. When the examiner ask why I was refusing to budge, I’d say because in your opinion, this cab is unsafe to drive with the wrong font…..I’m going to wait here till the insurance sent me a new cover note.

Years ago a friend of mine presented his Taxi to Penton street and the examiner said he couldn’t plate the cab as the drivers interior light lens had a small crack in it which made the vehicle unsafe to drive.

So he locked the Taxi on the ramp and refused to move it. The supervisor came out and asked why he was refusing to move the cab off the ramp. He said I can’t drive it because according to your examiner it’s unsafe. So I’m going to wait hear and phone my garage to bring me round a new light lens cover.

The supervisor took him into his office and within minutes, he was issued with new plates and advised to get the light cover changed.

The trouble these days, most drivers are scared to cause a scene or put their foot down and say enough is enough. There is no way the cab should have failed over this, it should have been licensed and the driver issued with an advisory note.

But then this isn’t about safety, is it. The driver will now have to pay again for another inspection…..so it really is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!

𝐓𝐀𝐗𝐈 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐒 𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐑𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐓:

Two years ago, I had to change my driving license and as advised I sent TfL (by recorded delivery) the link to the DVLA website so they could check my new license on line.

They failed to do this in the prescribed time and when they finally got round to checking, the link had expired (21 days).

They actually cancelled/ revoked my Bill and I had to stop working until a second link was sent…..this also expired and I was asked to email them a photo of both sides of the license. I then had to wait for them to issue me with a new bill and wait for it to arrive.

This whole episode took nearly 4 months to resolve. Luckily I wasn’t actually working at the time due to lockdown over Covid.

Because I had fulfilled my legal obligation, and because it was their (TfL) incompetence that had caused the problem, I sent them a request for compensation.

Needless to say my request was totally ignored as were all my emails and letters regarding the issue.

How is it, the a world class Taxi service, frequently voted the best Taxi service in the world….frequently put at the mercy of such an totally inadequate and incompetent two bob operation such as TfL?
