Spanish Taxi Drivers Protest, As Uber Comes Back To Barcelona As A Regular Taxi On-Line App.

Taxis protest in Barcelona today March 18th 2021 against the return of Uber in the city.

After Uber got kicked out as Private Hire suppliers, they are now coming back to Barcelona as a regular Taxi App (not PHV), using the taxi official meter to charge fares....at first apparently.

Below, is a tweet from a Spanish Taxi driver this evening:

Spectacular response from the taxi sector to the call of @Elite_TaxiBcn.

The largest protest since 2019.

This is the yellow and black cab. We don't want Uber,

we don't want the slavery of fake technology.

Dignity and struggle.

Long live the Elite!

If Uber lose their PH licence here in London, they could easily come back as a Taxi App as there doesn’t appear to be any legislation to stop them.

Going by the way drivers are supporting FreeNow (with their would you like a private hire car, it’s quicker and cheaper messages to customers booking a Taxi) and Gett (appears their supplying private hire on a Taxi App was swept under TfLTPH's carpet), to be honest, a can’t see the trade protesting against them as long as they get work.

I can hear the drivers now... “oh it’s busy on there”... “it’s ok they’re using us”... forgive and forget...

Be very interesting to see how this pans out in Barcelona 👀
