We Wait Ages For Some Good News, Then Just Like London Buses, Two Come Along Together

Just when you thought you would never see any good positive news about the London Taxi trade.... like London buses, two bits come along together.

First, this afternoon, we were informed by the Cabvision Twitter feed that the two way system on Gower Street and bloomsbury Street,And subsequently The restrictions on the Tottenham Court road due to be introduced on the 31st of January 2021 have been suspended for a couple of weeks due to administrative issues.

The changes they say, are now intending to take place within the next few weeks... or if the truth is known, when more is known about the TfL appeal of the high court verdict which stated the restrictions had been made -in the words of Mrs Justice Lang- unlawfully.

Then later in the evening, we get the news  that replies have been finally sent out by the BBC to Taxi drivers who had complained about the misuse of the word Taxi, in the headline of a video that appeared in the BBC website saying that “A ride that feels safer than a bus or a Taxi”

The actual words spoken in the video were “A ride that feels safer than a bus or an Uber”.

The BBC not only apologised by removing the word Taxi from the headline, they also re-edited the video and cut out the line where the lady said “A ride that feels safer than a bus or an Uber”.

One driver had to lodge a further complaint as he said they changed Taxi to CAB, and he wasn’t having that.

In the past the BBC have always claimed (falsely) that they can use the word Taxi or Cab as a generic term when referring to Taxis or minicab private hire.

But was have to take this as a victory over the bias Beeb, and hope this will encourage more people to complain next time they take a liberty with our iconic name.

 TAXI LEAKS EXTRA BIT:

So far, in the last week, Camden Council have suspended or dropped plans for unlawful street changes.

Will this be the next one they suspend or drop altogether?
