London Taxi trade facing increasing competition from both private hire and our regulator.

Last week TfL passed out another 359 PH drivers and another 320 new PH vehicles, while the Licensed Taxi Trade lost another 24 drivers.

PH driver now number 105,562, with Licensed Taxi driver currently at just 18,087.

Let’s not forget that our wonderful regulator gave Private Hire 6 years longer than the Taxi trade to switch to electric capable vehicles.

Addison Lee have announced the acquisition of Green Tomato Cars, a London-based car service that has led the industry in sustainability over the last 10 years

Having added over 1,000 electric vehicles to its fleet, following its commitment in November 2021 to transition its standard fleet to electric, the partnership will be invaluable in supporting its customers achieve their sustainability and net zero targets.

In the week that saw the 369th birthday of London’s Cabbies, Addison Lee and Green Tomato Cars have announced, they have been operating in London for a combined 100 years! But that’s actually two lots of 50 years added together…no more than a cheap trick.

The deal strengthens Addison Lee’s market position as the capital’s largest private hire, taxi and same day courier business.

Not forgetting, they also swallowed up executive car providers, Brunel and Travelhire.

This deal they say, follows Addison Lee’s strong financial results for 2022 alongside the acquisition of ComCab London in July 2021, which gave its customers access to private hire, taxi and same day courier services all on one platform. Not the first time we've seen this.

Although this additional supply of vehicles takes Addison Lee's fleet to over 7,500, they still have a long way to go to catch the ever increasing number of drivers who work for Uber.

𝐓𝐀𝐗𝐈 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐒 𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐑𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐓:

Notice the line "the capital’s largest private hire, taxi and same day courier business".

So well done to all the Taxi drivers who stayed with this minicab firm when they took over ComCab…architects of your own demise in the rush to complete Project Horizon on behalf of TfL.
