The LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) XE08 has been seen in China, being road tested on the streets of Beijing.
The new model does not appear to have been designed in the style of the iconic London Taxi. It is more the style of an MPV, widely used by Private hire operators and is believed to be looking to become a potential rival to the Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Vito (designs which are unavailable to London Taxi drivers).
Gone are the iconic round headlights and bonnet that give the TXE the traditional London Taxi appearance. Replaced by oblong units fitted into the front bumper. The short boot of the TXE replaced by a Ford Transit style rear.
With London's Taxi trade literally shrinking and the Private hire market expanding at a rate of knots, are LEVC about to double cross our trade with an eye on the legislation coming in January 2024, where PH owners will only be able to licence as new vehicles that are zero emission possible as Petrol and diesel only vehicles are no longer licensable?
𝐓𝐀𝐗𝐈 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐒 𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐑𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐓:
Do you not find it ironic, that the best Taxi vehicle (that never was), was run out of business in the high-court over mounting debts, after winning the copyright issue against Geely….and yet Geely, are now about to unveil a vehicle which is almost identical to a Mercedes Vito 🤷♂️
