Harrow incident: Three people injured after being hit by car

Three people have been injured after being struck by a car in Harrow last night (5 March).

The incident happened shortly before 10pm at the junction of Bessborough Road and Lascelles Avenue Harrow.

A spokesperson for Met Police told Harrow Online: “Police were called at 21:54hrs on Sunday, 5 March, to reports of a collision  involving a car and pedestrians in Lascelles Avenue, Harrow.

“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. Two of the pedestrians, men aged in their 20s and 50s, were taken to hospital where their injuries were assessed as not life-threatening.

“A third pedestrian, a woman aged in her 40s, was treated for minor injuries.

“The driver of the car, a 21-year-old man, initially failed to stop at the scene, however, he returned a short time later.

“He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision and remains in custody.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called at 9.58pm yesterday (5 March) to reports of a road traffic collision on Lascelles Avenue, Harrow.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including three ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance by car.

“Our first medics arrived in less than seven minutes.

“We treated three patients at the scene before taking them to hospital.”

Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses who could assist the investigation are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 6809/05Mar.

It’s clear from the photo in Harrow in line’s page that the car with blanked out registration plate, was in fact a TfL registered Private Hire vehicle, as the roundel in the front windscreen is clear.

Taxi trade reps have been calling for new PH drivers to have to undergo an advanced driving test, but TfL insist it isn’t necessary.

This is more than likely because it would slow down the approx 400 new PH drivers a week they are pushing out, and would probably affect TfL’s revenue.

So again, we see TfL putting financial gain above people’s safety, which should be paramount.

They probably need the extra finance to keep repairing the traffic lights in the junction of Bolton Street and Piccadilly on what seems to be a regular basis.

But surely people’s safety so come before anything else.

Khan and Will Norman are always on about ‘Vision Zero’, but then when it comes to money, it’s more like ‘Blind Vision’.
