On todays episode (15) of the BBC’s Claimed and Shamed, Naga Munchetty continually referred to a minor accident that occurred in the City of London, as an accident involving a “London Taxi” and at the start of the program actually showed a number of Licensed Taxis to accentuate this claim.
They also showed an obviously staged exchange of details, written on a Licensed Taxi receipt.
But when they showed the damage to the vehicle, it clearly shows a Ford motor car.
They then went on to say that the passenger status was then checked with the drivers local Taxi office, again showing it to be a minicab.
Time and time again, the TfL private hire driver ‘Chaudhary Sagir’ who was eventually convicted of fraud (receiving a two and a half year custodial sentence) was continually referred to…not only by Nags Munchetty but also DS Matt Hussey (who investigated the fraud) as a Taxi Driver and his car referred to as a Taxi.
This is not acceptable from the BBC and needs a swift apology to the trade.
I will be making a complaint today, insisting that the program be taken off the iplayer as it contains so many false allegations. I will of course post any reply I get from the BBC, but would also appreciate if more drivers could also complain through official BBC channels.
The program can of course be viewed at the moment on the BBC iplayer it’s the 15th episode of Claimed and Shamed.
The video below (with subtitles) has been edited down to show the referral to Mr Sagir as a Taxi driver and his vehicle as a Taxi.
