BALDRIC KHAN'S CUNNING PLAN TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF LONDON CABBIES.

TfL  reduce the speed limit across the capital to unrealistic levels (20mph) on major A roads, and then introduces new cash cow digital average speed cameras.

But, as an added blow to Taxi drivers, TfL have made this statement:

“Licensed taxi drivers who accumulate 12 penalty points on or after 20 December 2021 will have their taxi licence suspended for six months regardless of whether they are disqualified from driving.

If a court awards less (6 points), for a serious offence, drivers could  be suspended for 6 months”. (Source LTDA Taxi paper)

First wave of unlucky victims now tweeting about licence revocations on Twitter, plus in the same edition of Taxi paper, there’s a report that in the two weeks leading up to the article, 15 of their members were likely to have their licenses revoked for failing to observe the new speed restrictions.

Below is an email to Taxi Leaks, received from one such unfortunate Taxi driver who has had his licence revoked and his livelihood taken away, after falling fowl if the new lower limits.

I think I’m right in saying that the way the law works at the present time is if you accumulate up to 12 points on your driving licence you must appear in court with the possibility of receiving a ban from driving, if you earn your living from driving this is a very scary prospect.

How many years is it since this has been reviewed at a guess, I’d say 30 years or more?

Today we have more speed cameras than ever before, lower speed limits and on Central London many roads 20 MPH.  In the City of London some of these limits are being further reduce to 15 MPH by TFL.

As I have said, is it not time for a full independent review of these laws?

I would have thought most of these are for excess speed?

As a London taxi driver sometimes working in the early hours of the morning it can be difficult to keep to the required speed limit you only need to go a little bit over and you get flashed then 3 points on your licence plus the £100 fine.

At present you can legally get up to 12 points on your licence within a three years period but TfL have introduced new rules that would see your licence revoked for one serious offence.

This includes offences such as holding your phone or driving too close to a cyclist, carrying 6 points, TfL say licence would be suspended for 6 months regardless if you were not banned by a court.

Losing your livelihood would bring hardship to most drivers risking your home and everything you ever worked for.

Someone who’s always been a law-abiding citizen, now in court for maybe going 3 - 4 MPH over the new lower limit.

I would suggest this needs to be increased to maybe 24 points, before such drastic action, taking someone’s livelihood away and possibly changing their whole future.

Should I be so bold to say could this be just another way to raise extra revenue?

It would be interesting to see any data available for the last 3 years on how many drivers have been taken to court on the toping up system for speeding offences. With the ever-increasing cameras and the reduce speed limits on moor of our roads, my guess would be its increasing year on year. How much revenue has been generated year on year and how much hardship has been cause to hard working families.

Would it not be possible to have variable signage at night when there is far less traffic making slower speeds difficult, say at 10pm to increase the speed limit back to  30.00 MPH until 05am, but still have the cameras active but, set at 30 MPH.

When working at night I often get ask why are we driving so slowly I have to explain about the cameras especially with tourist who just can’t understand why we going so slow in a capital City like London.  This is also true with businessmen asking the same question and in my view is certainly putting off tourist and business people visiting London.

Surely this cant be helping London economy  which needs to recover after the pandemic.

Also: Be Careful Out There.

Been informed by the LCDC’s Alan Mc Grady that ANPR Camera’s have been added to Tottenham Court Road.

So be warned. No good screaming when you get a ticket ๐Ÿคซ

In light of TCR traffic ban, what was the point of cycle lanes on Gower st, absolutely ridiculous.
