IS TfL TOTALLY FAILING LONDON
Ask any Taxi driver what they think of their regulating body TfL, and they will tell you, the are not fit for purpose, bias against the Taxi trade and constantly fail to adhere to their own legislation, especially when it comes to private hire drivers and operators.
The current legislation in regards of the fitness of a vehicle to be licensed as a private hire states quite clearly…
On TfL's website you will find these guild lines:
PHVs under 18 months old must be zero emissions capable (ZEC) for a limited range of 20 miles and meet the euro 6 emissions standard, when licensed for the first time.
Zero Emission Capable (ZEC) vehicles
To meet the PHV ZEC requirements a vehicle must:
* Emit no more than 50g/km CO2 and be capable of being operated with no (zero) exhaust emissions for a minimum range of 10 miles (16.093 km); or
* Emit no more than 75g/km CO2 exhaust emissions and be capable of being operated with no (zero) emissions for a minimum range of 20 miles (32.187 km)
As a minimum, the vehicle must meet the Euro 6 emissions standard if an internal combustion engine is part of the vehicle specification (i.e. hybrid vehicles).
Why is it then that NSL passing stations have been licensing new Mercedes Benz S350 with a V5 stated 187g/km CO2 exhaust emission?
Is there one law/conditions of fitness, for the Licensed Taxi trade, but a different more flexible one for Private Hire Vehicles???
We looked at one new, recently licensed Mercedes S350 L AMG Prem Exec DA.
VRN…PO71WWP
Registration date 06/09/2021
Licensed by TfL 06/09/2021
Vehicle plate disc number…797687
This is just one of a number of new Mercedes Benz S350 that has been plated in contravention of TfL's own conditions of fitness for new PH vehicles.
Taxi Leaks has asked TfLTPH on their Twitter account (they have been refusing to answer our emails for over three years) why are these new Mercedes S350 being licensed as PHVs
We also asked them is their is one rule for licensed Taxis and a more flexible one for Private Hire vehicles.
We have forwarded this to Grant Davis, chairman of the LCDC who has I’m told, emailed all the usual suspects at TPH, asking for them to make a statement on this issue.

What this space for any replies😜
TAXI LEAKS UPDATE:
I’ve now been informed that the vehicle in question PO71WWP has now had its licence revoked
I’m told that this was an oversight by NSL.
