Having asked all the Orgs and Unions for a definitive answer and getting a complete blank, we now have it in TfL’s own words, in a reply from Hailey Yuill, customer service advisor from the Transport for London Customer Services who says...
“If it is a normal cycle lane, there is no problem with Taxis stoping at the side of the road to collect passengers, and the same rules would apply if they were stopping on a red route.
“However if it is a CS Cycle Lane (Super Cycle Lane) then the taxi is not permitted to enter the cycle lane at all and the passenger would have to hail the cab as normal and then cross the CS to board “.
Again TfL have failed to give a definitive answer!!!
Are they really expecting Taxis to stop in the middle of the road and get the ramp out for wheelchair users (which will then be in part, across the cycle lane) ???
It appears TFL haven’t a clue about the implications of their badly planned super cycle lanes will have on disabled and older Taxi passengers. No raised pavement to get into taxis with ramps can make them dangerous, especially the Mercedes type.
Most wheelchair users can’t get down high kerbs in to reach taxi.
TAXI LEAKS EXTRA BIT:
We’ve had a partial answer from an employee of TfL who obviously doesn’t understand the question or the connotations the trade faces with this issue.
We first heard about this new rule change from the DfT over a year ago and despite multiple requests for clearance, we are still none the wiser.
Again, Taxi Leaks is asking for one of our Orgs or unions to put out a statement with the information the trade requires.
Is this really acceptable ???
