New Statement From TfL, Regarding Face Covering Exemption badges For Passengers And Drivers

Further to the previous update on the subject of face coverings – in the form of TPH Notice 13/20 – that confirmed that from 24 September, passengers in taxis and PHVs must wear face coverings, unless they have a valid exemption.

As you know, a driver is entitled to refuse to carry a passenger who is not wearing a face covering, unless they have a valid exemption.

I wanted to make you aware that TfL has today launched a Face Covering Exemption Badge.

Previously we introduced a downloadable exemption card for the small number of customers who are not required by law to wear face coverings.  However, we recognise that for some wearing a badge might make it easier for to them be identified as exempt, and so have introduced one to give our customers that option.

An image of the badge can be found at the end of this email.

Customers will be able to request the badge online here: https://tfl.gov.uk/campaign/face-covering-exemption-badge?fbclid=IwAR2JK79wjz6o5ta346wluy6AZ9WgEIpNFQHJ6SKrrKkzBi8c6E3-8mwCT3I

Delivery time is approximately 2-3 days.

A badge can also be obtained by calling the TfL Contact Centre 0343 222 1234.

If a taxi or PHV driver has a valid exemption from wearing a face covering, they can also obtain a badge in this manner.

I’d be grateful if you could raise awareness of the Face Covering Exemption Badge with drivers – because they may well encounter them whilst carrying passengers.

Kind regards

TfL
