Ubers Licence Appeal : It All Stinks To High Heaven

We’ve heard on LBC this morning, that it appears a deal has been struck between the Met police and Uber. Apparently if Uber keeps handing over data on drivers and passengers movements, then the Met will heavily support Uber keeping their license.

This is what happens when a weak regulator fails to revoke the licence of a company that breaks the conditions of fitness.

Even though Marie Demetriu QC took Ubers senior management to the cleaners in the dock, when TfL took to the stand, they went soft by making a short statement saying they would leave the decision on wether Uber was concealing offences from them and if they were fit and proper to operate in London with the judge, and would accept the verdict on wether Uber should be relicensed.

* So, we had card fraud

* We had customers accounts hacked

* We had what they are referring to as photo fraud where a licence photo has been changed so an unauthorised driver could work

* We continued to see sexual attacks on customers by drivers who have committed multiple attacks

* We’ve seen rapes

* We’ve seen drivers authorised by Uber to work who have no insurance

* We’ve also seen stalking of customers by drivers

* Plus we also had the scandal, while on probation of medicals carried out on line, plus 13,000 drivers were discovered to have fake criminal record check DBS certificate....most of whom were allowed to continue to work even though they never supplied an official replacement. TfL only wrote to 2,600, believing that eventually after three years, these drivers would in turn have to supply a proper certificate.

Any one of these offences, knowingly covered up by any other PH operator, when discovered would see their licence to operate revoked with immediate effect.

Uber's 45,000 drivers with London licenses, have been able to operate throughout the appeal process, since Uber's fitness to operate first hit the headings back in 2017.  Even in the unlikely event the verdict goes against Uber, they can continue until all appeals have been exhausted. This could see the company continuing for months, even years.

If you were to be found not fit and proper as a licensed Taxi driver, you would not be able to continue to drive a Taxi until after any appeal, the court found you a fit and proper person.

What makes Uber, any different from a Licensed Taxi Driver ???

We’ve been told that the verdict is likely to be announce on Monday 28th of September.

September.
