The Path Of No Resistance... And So On And On It Goes. Get Use To The Gridlock, There’s More To Come


Get used to the gridlock, there’s lots more to come: 

The Camden (Seven Dials) Experimental Traffic Order 2020
Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Camden made the above mentioned orders on 14 July 2020 under Section 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended. 

The order will come into force on 23 July 2020. 

The general nature and effect of the order is as follows:

ENTRY PROHIBITIONS: motor vehicles will be prohibited from entering the streets below during the times and at the points indicated. “Except for the purposes of access” means access to premises in Mercer Street, Monmouth Street, Earlham Street, Short’s Gardens (between its junctions with Seven Dials and Endell Street) and Tower Street. Exemptions will apply to emergency vehicles.

MERCER STREET: motor vehicles prohibited from entering Mercer Street at its junction with Shelton Street between 10am and 6pm each day of the week, except for the purposes of access

EARLHAM STREET: motor vehicles prohibited from entering the section of Earlham Street which lies west of Seven Dials between 7am and 7pm on Mondays to Saturdays except for the purposes of access

MONMOUTH STREET: motor vehicles prohibited from proceeding in either direction in Monmouth Street south of its junction with Tower Street at any time.

MONMOUTH STREET / NEAL STREET: motor vehicles prohibited from entering Monmouth Street at the junction with Neal Street / Shaftesbury Avenue each day between 10am and 6pm. NEAL STREET: motor vehicles prohibited from entering the section of Neal Street that lies north of its junction with Short’s Gardens between 10am and 6pm each day of the week.

CHANGES TO DIRECTIONAL WORKING:
MONMOUTH STREET (between its junctions with Tower Street and Seven Dials) Vehicular traffic to proceed from south to north only (reversal of existing traffic flow) SHORT’S GARDENS (between its junctions with Seven Dials and Endell Street) Vehicular traffic to proceed from south-west to north-east (reversal of existing traffic flow)

CHANGES TO DESIGNATION OF PARKING PLACES AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS: 

MERCER STREET: paid-for bays at the side of the Cambridge Theatre and north of the junction with Seven Dials will be re-designated for the use of “CA-C” residents permit holders only at all times.

SHORT’S GARDENS: the shared-use residents / loading parking place and residents only parking place adjacent to nos. 2, 4 and 6 Short’s Gardens will be removed and the areas they occupied designated with a prohibition on waiting at any time. The remaining parking places between the junctions with Seven Dials and Neal Street will be removed and the areas they occupied designated with a prohibition on waiting on Mondays to Saturdays between 8.30am and 6.30pm.

MONMOUTH STREET: all parking places will be removed and the areas they occupied will be designated with a prohibition on waiting at any time.

TOWER STREET: the paid-for parking place at the southern end of the street will be re- designated for the use of “CA-C” residents permit holders only at all times.

The Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions of the experimental orders should be continued in force indefinitely. 

Within a period of six months beginning with the date on which the experimental orders come into force or, if the orders are varied by other orders or modified pursuant to section 10 (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, beginning with the day on which the variation or modification or the latest variation or modification came into force, any person may object to the making of an order for the purpose of such indefinite continuation.
