Private Hire Union UPHD, are asking the British public to boycott Uber, when its drivers go on strike this Tuesday (10th).
Drivers in London, Birmingham and Nottingham will strike from 1:00 pm London time, in protest over working conditions and pay.
Let’s not forget, this is the company that has been heavily supported in the media by GLA members Andrew Boff and Shaun Bailey.
Alongside the 24-hour strike, called by the United Private Hire Drivers (UPHD) branch of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB), demonstrations will be held outside Uber‘s offices in each city.
Drivers are demanding that their fares, which currently stand at £1.25 per mile in London, are increased to £2 per mile, as well as a 10 percent reduction in commissions paid to Uber.
UberX drivers, who provide the app‘s most popular service, currently pay Uber 25 percent commission on their earnings.
TAXI LEAKS EXTRA BIT:
In regards to the truly uninformed GLA councillors, who made such impassioned press statements about Uber's recent licence refusal, saying it will cause great hardship amongst their 45,000 drivers as they could soon find themselves unemployed....(even though they do not currently enjoy employed status...
Well Councillors, we’d like to point out to you both that new kids on the block Bolt recently bragged they'd signed up 30,000 of these drivers, plus India’s biggest on-line app Ola said that in the wake of the licence refusal, they had signed up 10,000 last Monday alone. Another new entry into the over serviced London market Kapten, publicly stated they signed up over 10,000 of these poor drivers!!!
So, Andrew Boff and Shaun Bailey, perhaps you can now stop worrying about the private hire drivers and turn your concerns to the bigger issue of struggling licensed Taxi drivers from the 365 year old Hackney Carriage trade......or don’t we count ???
