Uber Lodges Appeal At Marylebone Magistrates Court Over London Ban

REUTERS : Uber has filed an appeal against the decision by London authorities to deny it a licence to operate in London.

Last month, Transport for London (TfL) refused Uber a new private hire licence, saying the ride-hailing firm was not fit and proper.

TfL said it took the decision on the grounds of "public safety and security implications".

The appeal process could take months, during which time Uber can continue to operate in London.

"While we have today filed our appeal so that Londoners can continue using our app, we hope to continue having constructive discussions with Transport for London. As our new CEO [chief executive] has said, we are determined to make things right," an Uber spokesperson said.

Earlier this month, Uber's new chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi met Mike Brown, who runs Transport for London.

Uber described those talks as "constructive", while TfL said the talks "centred on what needs to happen to ensure a thriving taxi and private hire market in London.

Mayor Sadiq Khan said TfL were unlikely to do a U-Turn over the decision at yesterday's Mayors Question time.

The appeal is likely to be heard on the 11th of December.

Taxi Leaks Comment :

Why did It take TfL so long to take action over Uber. They've known for months about the 50% rise in Uber driver rapes and sexual assaults, the mountain of RTAs, 13,000 drivers with fake criminal record checks and fake medicals, GreyBall, the spying on passengers, the data mining from passenger phones, the hacked passenger accounts .... And yet they waited for Uber's licence to expire!!!

TfL top management have been 'woefully inadequate' over this issue.

WHO WILL BE NEXT TO GO ???

Why didn't they take action and revoke Uber's licence when all this first came to light?

Fuming is not the word!! The reason they didn’t revoke is because that means Uber would have to stop operating immediately. This is smoke and mirrors by TFL, this is just to show that they seem to be doing something about her but realistically all they want is the extra fee for s licence and a drag through the courts as if they give a toss!! That chapman needs to go!! What does she know about taxis!! Absolute crap all!! Civil servants that no nothing!!!

This is exactly what's happening. We need a change of government and a change of TFL. All just too corrupted, it's so not right, who is looking into all this, surely there must be a direction to go to get justice. Or do we have to resort to street justice because when things are so corrupted. What can we do????

Since it is so obviously all corrupt, is the best to be hoped for that Uber eventually collapses. Because either they collapse or take over. There's no middle ground possible. It is them or us. Easy to see why they are burning each others cars out in South Africa. Is that what it will eventually come to.

I have said it before we need a petition to investigate TFL management. We need some one like Sean Paul Day, some one articulate. This could drag on for a couple of years by which time Uber have avoided the planned new fee per car. Good plan from their point of view.

Last weeks incident at Exhibition road involving an uber car (or two !)which seems to have been a road traffic accident had the area gridlocked, swat teams mobilised, a police helicopter circling, the V and A and Natural History Museum under lock and key and scores of pedestrians running for their lives. Subsequently, the PM asks to be kept closely informed of developments. This was manner from heaven to our trade. Uber the gift that keeps giving. How have the trade orgs followed this up ? Has 'Khant' been asked for a specific update. Has he not made clear to TfL and the Met he wants to know the drivers status etc and what / how this accident occurred. Haven't the orgs pressurised the media for an update. This story has gone cold yet it had all the elements that would have articulated our case so clearly. Did the driver fall asleep/ faint. Did he do the left turn illegally from Cromwell because he was slavishly following the sat nav. How many injured and to what extent. Just when Uber's oleaginous CEO is sucking on TFLs gooch this disaster is laid at his feet and we don't press home the advantage !!

Perhaps as this Uber loving conservative government keep saying they want a level playing field they won't mind making us exempt from tax since they seem comfortable with Uber avoiding tax so much. Perhaps all businesses can do the same. A no tax society.
