TfL Using Uber Fo Business Travel, While Mike Brown Refuses To Answer Question From MP... by Jim Thomas

News broke yesterday that the UPHD Union had made a freedom of information request and found TfL to be Using Uber for Business travel.

Taxi leaks would like to know, how it's possible, that Mayor Sadiq Khan, who is after all the overall head of TfL, allows staff to use a foreign company which is registered offshore, pays what little tax it does pay in Holland, is at the centre of an employment tribunal and disregards many of the legislated private hire regulations, while we have reputable private hire companies who pay their fare share of tax and VAT.

WHY ARE TFL USING UBER?
What's been used as an incentive to entice TfL staff, to use this scandalous company for business travel and just how long has this been going on.

Did it start before or after managing director of surface transport  Leon Daniels lied to the GLA transport committee, about Uber's nonexistent on/off insurance policies?
Before or after he lied about Uber having a landline?
Did it start before or after TfL employed a top QC to show that Uber's phone wasn't a Taxi meter?

We ask these questions after the UPHD  Freedom Of Information Request was published on all forms of social media yesterday.

This again is more evidence of a bias connection between Uber and TfL, coming in the wake of damning emails published in the Badge Taxi newspaper, between TfL's Managing Director of Surface Transport Leon Daniels and Uber's Executive Jo Bertram, where it was explained that Uber should not make public certain statements which showed they were actually operating in contravention of the Private Hire Act 1998.

In a poll conducted by Taxi Leaks 64% of drivers who answered, said they thought Leon Daniels would be first Director to be sacked,  plus an online petition has also been set up actually calling for this TfL executive to be fired.

But then again TfL totally believe they are above any regulation bought in by parliamentary legislation, they've changed and relaxed many reg's to suit certain stakeholders at the cost to the licensed Taxi trade for many years.

More recently -on the 15th of October 2016- my own MP wrote to Mike Brown over the delayed publication of the private hire related rape and sexual assault statistics. To this day MP Gareth Thomas,  still hasn't received a formal reply from the Commissioner.

Have or have not, TFL staff been issued with a 'free' travel card? What's wrong with using public transport to attend business meetings? It's got to be quicker than Uber...

A law made by parliament can only be parliament and therefore taxi and private hire act of 1998 cannot be changed / amended without an act of parliament. TFL's action could now be deemed illegal. ref supreme court today

How they got away with claiming that the way the fare is calculated does not constitute as a meter is beyond me, well it's not, its obvious that it was all a set up, it's an abomination though the audacity of it is what is beyond me! 😡

This could blow up in their own faces, It'll only take one accident with one of its own staff on boar6

You are absolutely right... Here is the legislation that proves the "Meter Case" was botched!

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/34/pdfs/ukpga_19980034_en.pdf

Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998 Page 7 c.34 Sub Paragraph (3)

In this section "taximeter" means a device for calculating the fare to be charged in respect of any journey by reference to the distance travelled or time elapsed since the start of the journey (or a combination of
both).

It clearly states (DEVICE) - So why did the LTDA go to court under Sub Paragraph (1)
Council clearly didn't read the legislation; or was instructed not to mention the (DEVICE) issue, that couldn't be argued against by Uber, or TFL?

An accident involving one of their staff would certainly be covered up.

Uber needs a meter or their plan won't work, they knew their drivers would over run the streets of London because there is so many of them, all wanting to have what us licenced TAXIS have had for a long time ,a meter, fixed prices wouldn't work because of the congestion the extra 100000 cars would cause drivers would earn less than they do now, which ain't much, without a meter ,that's why that had to be the first thing to get on their side I think without that they would just fade away like shit does

Didn't the ltda say they were going to appeal the 'meter' decision?
Never heard anymore about it.

Wouldn't surprise me that uber are gifting free rides to TFL employees, has to be some reason they continue to cover up for them.

I cannot see Ubends licence not being renewed,If TFL are using them who is going to stop it?When ODDY said there will only be 10k Taxis in London he obviously knew what was going to happen, electric Taxis will not happen, the plug will be pulled and we won't have a vehicle to buy= game over.
