Andrew, who owns the Mansion club on Micklegate, as well as the Whippet Inn restaurant on North Street, told YorkMix: “The taxi system in York has never failed us. It didn’t fail us during Royal Ascot at York. It didn’t fail us during the Tour de France.
“The Uber drivers are only appearing en masse on a Friday or Saturday night. All they’re doing is coming over and taking the cream from the people that support us seven nights a week".
Andrew said "if people use Uber it’ll lead to taxi firms laying off call takers as well as drivers. Half the people who view the video will probably know a taxi driver who lives on their street".
Meanwhile the Uber drivers from out of town don’t have the local knowledge: in the comments under Andrew’s video people reported seeing drivers going the wrong way down one-way streets.
Andrew claimed that £3 of every £10 Uber fare goes to the global company which doesn't pay proper taxi or VAT in this country and the rest is going out of York to the drivers from other cities.
His video sparked a debate, with some residents saying they found Uber convenient and cost-effective. But others agreed with him.

What people must recognise is that uber is a loss leader at present, heavily subsidised by investment companies and annoyingly by us taxpayers who make up the wages. When they reach their objective of wiping out tax-paying local firms and taxis, their prices will rocket and people will have no other option but to pay. Of course we will see no returns on the massive profits going abroad!
This may make you laugh, after 18 years driving a minicab in bexley I have been told I must take an English exam by next April. The exam will cost me £185, I was born in London , educated at a grammar school in bexley and speak English and Cockney rhyming slang like a diamond geezer, another money making scheme by tits fucking London, if you can supply your O level results papers you get a pass, how many of you can lay your hands on your school exam results
Just the same in Bristol, hundreds of cars registered with TFL and "drivers" with no Bristol license taking the local drivers work. Seems to be a favourite of the youngsters for whom its just another app to play with on the phones they can't be parted from. I have many concerns with the way Uber and their drivers operate , most drivers have quickly realised that rather than pay to rent a TFL car that its cheaper to own your own, but rather than get a car in Bristol they go to neighbouring South Gloucester and license it there. Until the local council grow some and actually stop all the loopholes this will keep happening until their revenue stream dries up and the licensing team will probably get made redundant,in difficult times where the city council has to make 1000 redundancies you'd think they would need every bit of income they could milk from the taxi trade .What about the insurance aspect? I am asked where I live and what area I am licensed to work, what happens when a TFL car has an accident when working in Bristol? will the insurance be valid? Finally Bristol was recently the european green capital lol, you couldn't make it up , approx 500 Uber cars now operating in our city, and our council have surveys on unmet demand for the hackney trade, wake up and smell the coffee, you are getting no revenue from these drivers , they are conjesting our already crowded roads and lastly they are a hazard to other road users as they don't know where they are going!
And who are the Uber drivers in York licenced by?
Blame the liberal left,i know how you feel but blame mass migration for screwing your living,also Uber for taking on cheap migrants & part timers that's screwed your living,blame Goldman sachs/adam smith institute,they have brought this to a war,because they have with bought of partners at tfl now with a App able to take the profit out of the hands of individuals.
They are working in Crawley, come out of Gatwick Airport after waiting there for job and doing local jobs. Don't even think they are licensed for Crawley yet!!!

It's more that what the City Of York council have done for us, it does seem to be one way traffic from the council but not in our favour, for what ever reason that may be.
