All Rise.....But Will Our Orgs Rise To The Challenge?

So here we have it Uber is seeking judicial review over improvements to the PH regulations.

All others in the PH world are in favour.

It's entirely reasonable that PH drivers have an appropriate decent level of English as they have to deal face to face with others, many of whom won't have English as a native tongue.

The same applies to having the phones (yep telephones Uber) staffed by London based staff with knowledge of the topography.

As for insurance, it's a no brainer, how can you licence a PH vehicle for a year yet not have the appropriate insurance in place for the period?

If people want to have SDP insurance then they have to surrender the PH vehicle licence and pay the CC, you can't have it both ways.

We already have cars being driven by one licensed and two unlicensed drivers, people falling asleep at the wheel, daily RTA's, multi devices on windscreen, rampant touting, virtual PFH the list goes on and on and it's getting worse.

It's certainly interesting and we wonder if any e mails and content of telephone calls from officers in TfL or indeed between the UTG and TfL will come to light?

What's clear is that despite the smooth PR exterior behind that is a company that can't abide any proper standards for passengers or drivers as the cost base rises to the true cost of provision and that will derail the sweatshop.

I won't make predictions on the outcome, but we should certainly now be using the famously trumpeted one million pound fighting fund informing the public of the FACTS.

All the unions and orgs need to get together and issue a joint statement on this in order to counter the propaganda and this time without seeking individual acclaim.

Will we rise to the challenge?

No further questions M'Lud.

I don't come on this site much these days. But after reading this article I feel compelled to post a comment. Firstly the
trade orgs ate absolutely clueless divs, with a track record of puting the trade further and further down the toilet, they are toothless.

Secondly, the language exam is a red herring Uber are tossing to Joe public and the planks in the mediathe media are all over it!

Yes, Uber are desperate to protect the immigrant work force they are exploiting - but INSURANCE is the biggie on the agenda.
How much do you think it will cost the average immigrant that's only been in the country five minutes to obtain hire and reward insurance? It's got to be at least £300 + a month, easy !
This makes being an Uber driver non viable for the average wet-back, and would definitely put an end to TFL selling 500 PH licences a week on behalf of their partners Uber!

whatever the outcome its all free publicity. Remember the anti uber demo that saw a massive increase in downloads.
Their wouldnt be such thing as the definition of a tout if every member of the public even thought about is the fella insured, or even cared..its a cheap ride home, especially after a few drinks.
The shift has already happened away from the traditional Hail/black cab. Its a new generation of users, that dont give a toss about icons, knowledge, or trained drivers.
Stricter ph regulation may decrease new applicants and cull a few existing drivers but whatever way you look at it theres more of a market for the cheap ride app based cab home than there was 5 years ago. There is no long term black cab future, sometimes you just have to accept things and move on.

You have to give uber the balls to defend what they think is right, our trade orbs are completely light weight compared to them, come on orbs stand up and be counted, but I feel we have missed the boat? Uber will take TFL to court, our orbs are still undecided about cc machines, and the outcome is a clear as you can see, they will win the day and then TFL will say you don't have to have cc machines in the back, why have our orgs been so stupid, stand up for your members the cc machines in the back is a no go, how can
a driver be response able for a machine he has no control over, please do not forget that TFL are liable for your declined and insufficanit funds you must take them to the small claims court for your losses, they are enforcing you to accept these cc so they must be liable for our losses, let's stand up and be counted j Jimmy Jenkins secretary CSF
