Press Release From The UCG : Members Meeting.

At a very well attended, standing room only, members meeting yesterday, UCG Chairman Len Martin explained that answers from our and the LTDA barristers are expected within 7/10 days.

The UCG barrister is looking at the veracity of TFLs stance that they cannot cap PHV numbers;
It is our belief that they can.

The LTDA barrister is working on the Uber app constituting Plying For Hire.

When these opinions are received a multi org  meeting will take place to discuss the next step.

The UCG will convene another members meeting on August 17th to give an update

Angela Clarkson
Secretary.

And how is capping PH at 100,000 going to change anything ?

Taking away the status as licensed PH might help, as PH has abused this privaledge from the get go. The standard of PH and the service they offer to the general public is dangerous and the regulator is confused. If the powers that be and the trade org's had any gumption they would call for a change to the current legislation and give PH the title:

REGISTERED PRIVATE HIRE

And ban the use of licenced PH and mini cabs completely.

Capping is not a solution to out problems granted.
But with new licences being approved at the rate of 700 a week, our trade can't survive without a cap ASAP, to curb further expansion.

As for banning PH/minicabs completely...lol, never going to happen while TfL carry on with their present agenda.

Got the same chance with that, as with the RMT laughable EDM.

At present, the only orgs actively fighting for our survival are engaged with legal issues
The LDTA, LCDC and UCG, representing over 15,000 drivers. Between them have all instructed barristers.
Unite with just a few dozen members has walked away from any direct action as the say they have too much to loose.
RMT with just 01% of the trade as members, want to run the show.
A meeting was recently held at taxi house to get the trade together on all issues but United didn't even turn up and the RMT shouted the place down, threw their toys out the pram and stormed out.

Seems it's all down to egos again.

On the other hand after just three months in existence, the Save Our Black Taxi group have attracted nearly 14,000 members in just 5 months, raised funds to finance their first demo and have now announced a second demo for the 5th December at Downing Street, where they hope to hand in their petition to no10.

Maybe we should campaign that disabled people should have a right to choice. So all ph should take wheelchair people in the same way we do. See how they like it Shem they have to spend £40,000 plus on a car. Soon knock the amount of ph cars there is in london

What happened to getting a legal position on the apps use of a meter to calculate fare?

I'm Spartacus said...

even if TfL do suspend/delay/cap PH licences, it will be immediately appealed and therefore not come into force.

The YB sector suspension could have been appealed but wasn't so it teaming and the legislation is different anyhow.

Now if everyone else at the time had joined Jihn Kennedy, Stan Marut, RMT and others in calling for a public enquiry yet as back, we may not be where we are now, the trade had plenty of warnings on this blog, The Anderson Shelter , Cab Driver and the independent cab press.

Too busy sucking up to TfL with the engagement policy and only concerning themselves with small minded oneupmanship.

The only solution is a change in the law, no good saying TfL must enforce the laws they have now, they won't as they don't have the cojones, there it is folks.

You'll have to ask TfL .
It's their QC (who already told them that in his opinion it's not a meter), who's going to be high court on behalf of TfL.

Crazy.... You bet
