SAN FRANCISCO -- A coalition of California cab companies have been informed they can sue ride-booking service Uber for advertising that it offers "the safest rides on the road", suggesting to riders that taxis are the more dangerous option to get around town.
A federal judge in San Francisco ruled Friday that the cab companies could proceed with most of their case, denying in part Uber's motion to throw out the suit.
The ruling handed a partial victory to the cab companies, which have for years vehemently opposed Uber and similar ride-booking companies like Lyft and Sidecar, which make smartphone apps that connect non-professional drivers directly with passengers. The services have rapidly become the preferred choice to traditional taxis in several cities.
Uber have also been accused of using an Illuminated signs to ply for hire
The sign is displayed on a driver's car parked near the San Francisco International Airport parking area in San Francisco. The picture above was taken Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
Taxis are losing business travellers to the service. In the three months ended in June, Uber overtook taxis as the most expensed form of ground transportation, according to expense management system provider Certify.
MEANWHILE-- HERE IN LONDON:
Licensed Taxi Driver Orgs along with Private Hire Associations have renewed their call for the Mayor to ban the American company after an Uber driver died after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel and crashed head on into a lamp post.
On an Uber forum, drivers have reported they are working extreme hours, with one driver bragging hoe he worked a 52 hour shift over one week end.

Reports of Uber cars dangerously driving on the wrong side of the road, going down one way streets the wrong way and falling asleep at traffic lights are now extremely common place on social media.
Uber fatalities have long been predicted, and now both the Mayor and TfL have blood on their hands.
No wonder the rats are deserting the sinking ship at TfL!
Boris: Being given the bum's rush?
After No10 told Boris to go easy on Uber, we are now being told by The Times, No10 are trying to kill off Boris' political future.
He who lives by the sword.....as they say.

by the establishment. Welcome to our world Boris, and may your political downfall be long lasting, painfull and as embarassing as possible... But not necessarily in that order 🐍
All these problems we have with uber and still get GBs trying to look at my meter when I'm dropping off in town ,I wish they would get real more interested in a YB than a mini cab
8.47.you are paranoid.
Got no sympathy for gb's the only people they can bully are yb's
These tweets are a perfect example of TfL's agenda doing the job it was designed to do.
They have always feared a united trade so approaching the Olympics they invented the engagement policy. Militant Taxi orgs wanting direct action found themselves black balled and still are to this day, although an impression of trade unity has recently been seen. Won't last though.
Then to divided the trade even further, horror stories were put out in UTG press that Suburban drivers were nicking work en masse. Some YB drivers have been at it for years but it was never as bad as some orgs tried to paint it. Many stories of dozens of drivers caught in the city, were untrue when checked out.
Now the mass hysteria has died down, the latest trade divider is mandatory card acceptance.
Every day stories abound
"15 cabs in front of me wouldn't take a pregnant lady who wanted to pay by card......and she went to St Albans and gave me a £50 tip."
Wise up, stop putting out these glory stories publicly on social media which damage the trades reputation.
Don't let the TfL spin machine draw you in.
Just do your job, the best you can and continue to be the gold standard that every other taxi service, world wide aspires to.
I'm paranoid ,my arse because of grant Davis and his bully boys in the club all we get is GBs screwing us out and this is why you'll see hardly any YBs on a demonstration, why bother to help GBs when the look at us like shit .
All this bullying from gb's is a fact it goes on all the time mainly from drivers who have not been out too long. Were not all as thick as two planks and unlike some gb's in know. Why don't you more sensible ones try to stamp it out. It would be a good start
