Did He Go Or Was He Pushed...Hendy Gone,

Tube boss Sir Peter Hendy quits to take top job at Network Rail

The capital’s transport chief Sir Peter Hendy today announced he is leaving his job to take on a new post at the top of Network Rail.

He will oversee 2,500 stations nationwide as well as tracks, tunnels and level crossings — and take on the biggest programme of upgrades since the Victorian era.

The appointment of Sir Peter, boosts the prospect of City Hall winning more control over suburban rail routes. London Underground boss

Mike Brown will step into his shoes as interim Transport for London Commissioner but is widely ex- pected to get the post permanently.

Mayor Boris Johnson, who worked closely with the Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin on the appointment, said Sir Peter will help deliver projects of “colossal importance” to the UK economy, including Crossrail 2.

Mr Johnson is understood to be confident his departing transport chief’s role as NR chairman, which he begins next month, will see London win more power over rail franchises.

A source close to the Mayor said: “Peter brings an agenda and practices honed in London to the UK rail network.

“That experience will be vital in driving improvements across the UK and in making the case for greater devolution of rail services within London, something the Mayor has long called for.” The Mayor’s plan, which has cross-party support, promises cleaner stations, more regular services and reduced bills for taxpayers.

But commuters from outside the M25 have raised fears their routes will lose priority status if TfL takes over the core services, while Department for Transport officials have expressed doubts.

Mr Johnson said: “Under Sir Peter’s leadership, the international reputation of London transport is higher than ever. It is quite right those skills should be deployed on the national stage.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with him on many projects of colossal importance for London and the UK economy — Crossrail 2, rail devolution and many others.”

He leaves smelling of roses walking of into the sunset into another top job. The damage Hendy and his chums have done to our trade through their wilful malevolence will take years to repair, if the right steps are taken, i:e proper enforcement of the regulations.
Daniels need to go next.
I don't know much about Mike Brown but lets hope his attitude towards us is more professional and he is willing to engage with the trade and listen to our concerns and act upon them, that would be a good start.
Just a final thought, Hendy in charge of stations, does this include forecourts? Probably. I can almost hear Hendy now 'What we need is space on the forecourts for all those Toyotas who are waiting for their phones to beep' hmmm thinking now where will we get this space from? 'We need to reduce the space available for Taxis'
Anyway I'm glad he's gone.

Hendy only knows about running buses, other that that he couldn't run a tap. His position at TfL has become too contentious and Johnson has received the backlash over the woeful mismanagement of TfL. Today's announcement is right out of City Halls top drawer:

Dowdy,not sacked moved sideways.

Mason, not sacked, moved sideways.

Chapman, not sacked, moved sideways.

Hendy will make a Horlicks of whatever he touches, he's a bodger of the highest degree. God help Network Rail!

The show goes on, and shouldn't stop until TfL has been purged of ALL of the dross!

I have engineering and signalling friends in the rail industry. He will come unstuck big time if he tries it on with those guy's.

Let's see how long it takes Hendy to f#@k up Network Rail beyond repair!

.........To catch the rabbit, you have to put a purse net over every hole of the warren, before putting the ferret down one of the holes. When you do, the rabbits fearing for their future......... bolt.

Mr Johnson said: “Under Sir Peter’s leadership, the international reputation of London transport is higher than ever ........"

And everyone thought Ronnie & Reggie were dead !

Getting a bit uncomfortable up there, was it ? Rest assured Mr Hendy, your name will liveth forever more.

You don't get it! Hendy went to his job interview and said ' I implemented these changes - made loads of money and saved loads of money' . No one cares if it was any good. This is the essence of being a career civil servant. Next one in will do more of the same. Until we get away from TFL we are finished.

I hate you Butler said...

If your an out of town cab driver, enjoy that station rank while it lasts, cab hater Hendy is coming your way.

What does a bus garage wallah know about trains?

Anyhow Londoners rejoice!

So who was the senior TfL staff member reported for sexual harassment?

What amazes me is that the government have replaced the head of network rail after holding them to account for not delivering the changes needed and for not remaining within a set budget. So they replace him with a man who has been held to account by the GLA for heading an organisation that has been deemed not fit for purpose.

The next best thing that could happen is John Mason finding Helen Chapman a job down the bailiffs yard where he now works.

Whoever gave Hendy this job is either in denial, or never traveled by road in London. He won't last five minutes. Lots more of engineering work will go on, then Hendy can concentrate on improving the bus replacement service. Beyond that and tupping internet brasses he's useless!

Semtex, I think it's safe to say we are seeing a charm offensive here. But why? At the moment I'm suspicious.

it is nigh on impossible to get sacked in the public sector. I think they made provisions for him to leave. The timing coincides nicely with Johnson's compensatory "I won't hear a bad word said about the cab trade." I imagine now that the high court ruling to define what constitutes a taxi meter will be dropped and declared that it does indeed look like a duck and quack like a duck. Surely, with Hendy out the way the mayors position on it prevails?
