Caroline has been hugely instrumental in backing the Licensed Taxi trade after the GLA report, "Future Proof", found the licensing authority TfL to be woefully inadequate.
Caroline was elected to the London Assembly in May 2008 and has a strong track record of campaigning on issues such as strong policing and improved public transport. She is Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, Chair of the London Assembly's Transport Committee and Deputy Chair of the Police and Crime Committee. Caroline has been a Trustee of the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education in Waterloo since 2005.
Caroline was a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority between 2008 and 2012 and the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority between 2008 and 2010.
Caroline was a Liberal Democrat Councillor in Southwark between 1998 and 2010 during which time she held several posts including Deputy Leader of Southwark Council and Executive Member for Children’s Services and Education. Caroline was also a Board Member of Lambeth and Southwark Housing Association between 2002 and 2010.
Caroline was awarded an MBE in the 2013 New Year Honours List for public and political service.
Caroline moved to London after graduating from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 1994. She worked in local government and the health service for over a decade before becoming a full time politician.

There is no doubt that Caroline Pidgeon has spoken and represented the London Taxi trade extremely well, whilst sitting on the London Assembly.
She does appear at this stage to be a very honourable and genuine friend of our trade.
I must admit though, I did feel a bit uncomfortable with her position on the judging panel earlier this year at The Lancaster Hotel.
You may remember that the award for Taxi & Private Hire Operator of The Year category, was given to Uber.
I am not aware of the facts of Caroline's personal input in this, or whether she voted for them or not.
Had that been me though, the very fact that a dubious operator with a questionable app masquerading as a taxi meter, and the controversy that they were operating in, would have had seen me boycotting my place as a judge immediately.
I may be being unfair here though, as I am not absolutely sure of the part that Caroline played in Uber's award success, if any at all.
I;m sure she is a good egg though, and I am grateful for the good work she has done for us thus far.

Caroline Pidgeon is 100% up to date that the Taxi Age Limit was corruptly introduced by Boris Johnson and fully understands Tim Yeo's involvement in this corrupt agenda... As Chairperson of the GLA transport committee she has never challenged this corrupt injustice... She has been bypartisan to the corruption. She needs to be held accountable before the cab trade endorses her bid to become Mayor!
Extensive technical information was sent to Caroline Pidgeon in 2009 which clearly showed that the London Taxi Age Limit was improper and unlawful as it would do nothing to reduce pollution as the Mayor had falseley claimed. She was Chair of the Transport Committee and had the power to take action but chose to do nothing, instead recommending that legal action should be taken.
More recently she has made a lot of noise that TFL is woefully inadequate yet no effective action has been taken by her or her committee.
They could have initiated urgent action against the Mayor or TFL or filed complaints of non compliance with the GLA monitoring officer.
Instead no action has been taken
It is extremely convenient that she has made a lot of noise publicly supporting the taxi trade but actually doing nothing just before a mayoral election and then standing as a candidate.
She would have some credibility if she had used her position to actually do something instead of just talking about it
The Taxi Age Limit should be stopped immediately pending investigation. Anyone else care to make a comment, or are you gonna leave it to your wives and girlfriends to stop your cabs being corruptly taken off the road!@
I have finally worked it all out.The GLA are useless,they do not back up what they recommend and there is nobody out there that gives a T### about the licensed Taxi trade.Boris ,Hendy etc are all feathering their own nests so we should grid lock London on a daily basis or it will be a death by a thousand cuts.
Will Caroline commit to sacking the overpaid cretins that are bringing this City to it's knees? Caroline Pidgeon has thrown her hat into the ring as candidate for Mayor... Now let's hear her political mandate?
